Best Nunchaku for You

The best nunchaku for practicing must be made of wood, hard wood as oak or red oak.

Nunchaku should not be too heavy or too light. 250 grams nunchaku are most comfortable for most of technical tricks.

Chaining is not a good idea. Forget about metal. Rope connection is better. It is much more flexible, not noisy and safety.

There are several connection types. "Loop" connection makes Nunchaku detachable. This could be important for legal transportation and anti-nunchaku laws.

Never paint or lacquer nunchaku. The best finish for Nunchaku is a wood polish made of 2 parts of olive oil and 1 part of lemon juice.

Sizes of each stick must be about 35 cm for adult (165-190 cm high) and 30 cm for child (110-160 cm high). Length of rope connection must be 2-10cm.

The sticks width must be 22-25 mm.

Now you know what nunchaku is good for you. It is time to start practicing…

Here I will put some practical tips you might want to know about.

Tip: Our Beastick Club "Gepard" nunchaky tightening (cording)

This cording is has several benefits. It is easily disconnecting which makes it perfect for airport security checks. It is very reliable, rope is protected and serves for much longer time than traditional nunchaku cording. The knock is hidden inside of the stick which makes it much more elegant and convenient.

So, that is the procedure. Hope pictures will explain all.

Tip: Traditional Nunchaku types

First of all I want to say that there are two types of corded bisticks:

1. Three holes, classic Okinawa nunchaku

2. Two holes, probably one of the Chinese jie guns

Tip: Three holes nunchaku cording "Loop" (Okinawa Kobodo)

cording_1_w.jpg

This cording is usually used with classic Okinawa Nunchakus.

1. Put some candle wax into all holes. This makes the rope life much longer.

2. Bend the rope in the middle and push the loop into the upper hole. Pull it out the first side hole

3. Push the loop into the bottom side hole

4. Push the loop into upper side hole and pull it out the upper hole

5. Pass the ends of the rope through the loop

6. Tighten it and pull the loop into the upper hole to hide it

7. Do the same with the ends of the rope on another stick

8. Tighten the knock around the rope

9. Cut the ends, burn the ends with a lighter and pull the knock into the upper hole

Tip: Two holes nunchaku cording "Yin Yang" (Probably Chinese)

cording_2_yin_yang.jpg

This cording used with "short stick long rope" bisticks. I call it "Yin Yang" because the rope "draws" the Yin Yang symbol inside the stick.

1. Put some candle wax into all holes. This makes the rope life much longer.

2. Pass the end of the rope through the side hole

3. Turn both ends around each side and push them to opposite sides of the side hole

4. Pull the ends from the upper hole

5. Push the ends into upper hole of another stick. Pull the ends from different sides of the side hole

6. One end of the rope push through opposite side of the side hole

7. Tighten the knock

8. Cut and burn

9. Push the knock into the side hole. Tighten all the rope turns

Tip: Nunchaku cleaning

The best bi-stick is the one made of hard wood and not painted or lacquered. To clean the wood sticks take the piece of soft cotton rag, put few drops of olive (or any other plant oil) and rub the oil into surface of the stick. Olive oil cleans and hardens wood sticks and also makes them easier to grab.

Tip: Simple sticks chaining

Yes, if you want to use a chain instead of the rope here is simplest way to attach it. Note this doesn't give yet motion flexibility which ball bearing connection does but it is very simple and easy to make.
